Worship and Preaching

Worship has often been called the number one spiritual practice of a UU congregation. This is the thing that the highest number of congregants do together that brings spiritual depth and meaning to their lives. It is the greatest opportunity we have to examine what it means to be a congregation, what it means to be a UU, and how Unitarian Universalism informs the other aspects of our lives. My worship leadership tends to focus on these topics, with a sensitivity toward addressing the impact of current events on our hearts and minds.

During these tumultuous times, I also believe that worship services provide an excellent opportunity for us to learn and use spiritual practices. I carve out time from every service for breathing together, sharing silence, and other means of co-regulating our nervous systems. What’s most important to me in a worship service is creating transformative experiences that give a little distance and perspective on the busy-ness of our lives.
